Event Highlights & Full Schedule

  • The event takes place over three days, Friday May 2 - Sunday May 4.

  • NEW: Friday includes a puzzle chess tournament and a range of social puzzling activities.

    • The puzzle chess tournament will have a double-knockout which means participants are guaranteed a minimum of two rounds.  Puzzles are 200 pieces and participants will be asked to download a puzzle chess app.  More information will be added to our Event Guide prior to registration opening.

  • All speed-puzzling competitions occur on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Each competition includes one Ravensburger puzzle to take home.

  • CHANGE: Individual qualifying rounds and pair qualifying rounds will be on shared tables.  Your puzzling space will be 36" x 30".

  • Top finishers from each qualifying round will participate in the division Final Round.

  • CHANGE: The top 8 finishers in each individual qualifying round will compete in the finals on their own table, 72" x 30".  The remaining finishers who qualify will be on shared tables.  This allows more participants to advance and participate in the finals and is modelled similar to worlds.

  • There will be randomly drawn puzzle prizes for participants of each qualifying event.

  • NEW: Puzzle prizes are awarded for the top six finishers in each of the final rounds.

  • The event is open to all ages but we ask that children under the age of 14 be supervised at the event venue by an adult.

Volunteer

Thank you to all of our volunteers from prior year's events.  Without our volunteers this event would not be possible.  We are looking for event volunteers to help with the following:

  • Registration Table throughout the day.  While the morning is the busiest, participants do arrive throughout the event for different qualifying rounds.  This is a good role for someone who prefers a sitting position.

  • Raffle Ticket Sales at the registration desk.  We will have several raffle prizes and tickets for sale.  The raffle helps us raise funds to grow the association and offer new initiatives and giveaways.  This is a good role for someone who prefers a sitting position.

  • Competition Spotters  Each qualifying round needs about 10-12 spotters.  Final rounds, we need 5-8 spotters.  Our spotters are the ones circulating the competition floor and recording finishing times.  There are times where spotters can sit, but volunteers for this role should be comfortable on their feet.   Spotting rounds range from 90 minutes to 3 hour blocks.

  • Local Errands - if you have access to a vehicle, we need help both Saturday and Sunday with a few local errands.

Food and Beverage

Food and beverages will not be provided or available at the event venue on Saturday and Sunday.  Participants will want to make plans to explore Georgetown or bring a packed lunch.  Snacks are allowed on the competition floor but any beverages must be in sealed containers to avoid any accidental spilling on the tables or puzzles.

Hotel Options

There are many hotels a short drive away in Mississauga.  Previously the CJPA admin have stayed at the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale and the Courtyard Toronto/Mississauga which are both nice hotels.
